New Product Review: Manila, a different type of vinyl

Last week I was asked to quote for a 2-seater Jig High Settee to be used in a school common room. The client asked if it was hard wearing as it would have lots of teenagers jumping on and off it. As the Jig High Settee has a solid oak frame and a 5-year structural warranty I confirmed that I would thoroughly recommend it.

Finding the perfect fabric for office and common room furniture

In order for me to price it up I had to recommend a fabric that would be suitable for use in such a challenging environment. The fabric had to be:

  • Hard wearing
  • Stain repellent
  • Resistant to drinks being spilt on it
  • Easily cleanable
  • Possibly in a darker shade to hide stains easier

After seeking advice from the fabric manufacturers, I specified Manila, a new textured vinyl from Camira Fabrics.

A stain resistant sofa with style

I am sure we have all seen and felt the old, traditional vinyl. A slippery, shiny, plain surface usually in a shade of brown or black, with the uncanny ability to stick to any uncovered flesh that comes into contact with it. Well, the new Manila vinyl comes in a palette of 18 shades which range from delicate, light tones up to bright, vibrant colours. They all feature a textured design that mimics the look of a woven fabric, along with a subtle grain that adds interest and relief which helps to break up the colour.

The top features the latest in Nano-technology to produce a super high quality, super-matt laminate surface, with anti-fingerprint technology and an anti-bacterial sealed ultra-hard surface in a white or black matte laminate which is very tactile and easy to clean.

Martin High

The Martin range features rectangular high tables from 1600mm up to 4400mm wide along with a 1200mm diameter circular table and a 800mm or 1000mm square table. Power sockets and cable management can be added and complementary upholstered high stools with oak or walnut leg frames are also available to match the table.

Campus High Tables

The Campus High Table is the lowest priced high office table from our range. The table’s size range from a 1600mm wide table to seat four people through to a 4400mm table to seat 12 people. All tables are 1050mm high.

Tops are available in 10 mfc finishes, 3 laminates and 4 veneer finishes. Leg frames are in silver, black or white with power sockets available as an optional extra.

Box-It High Tables

Our Box-It High Tables have a block-like, clean looking, panel profile that comes in 10 mfc finishes along with the option of a bright white laminate finish. For this meeting table, there are just three lengths available: 1600mm, 1800mm and 2000mm.

The Jig Social range is a stylish addition to our high meeting table line up. The Jig Social High meeting Table range features a wooden leg frame finish in natural or black oak alongside a choice of 23 coloured laminates, seven rustic effect finishes, six Fenix and six Forbo finishes.

Our first installation of the Magna Meeting Pod

We are very pleased to say that we have just completed the first installation of our new Magna Meeting Pod. This one was a four seater (2 + 2) upholstered in Camira Fabrics Positive X2 fabric.

The pod has the highest specification possible, featuring a tapered white laminate table with a silver column base, a monitor mounting bracket with cable access, a linking panel to link the two high back sofas together along with 2 x UK power/usb smart charger sockets built into the linking panel.

 

In this post, we take a look at what the business is using the meeting pod for, where it is positioned in the office and what their initial thoughts are. Have a read through their experience of buying a meeting pod and it might give you some inspiration for your workspace:

Prior approval

Following a meeting with the client, a coloured 3D render (shown below) of the new Magna Meeting Pod was produced so the client could confirm they were happy with the fabric colour and final appearance.

An order was then placed on the factory with a delivery lead time of three weeks. The delivery date and time was agreed with the client to be convenient for them.

Delivery and installation of the meeting pod

Delivery and installation commenced at 9.30am and finished just over an hour later at 11am, requiring only two fitters. I went along just to see how it all went together, of course!

We removed all packaging from the site and left the Magna Meeting Pod ready for the customer to use.

Where is the meeting pod used in the office?

The Magna Meeting Pod has been situated in a wide corridor which links two departments, not your usual space for a meeting room but an area which would otherwise have been unused and populated just by a couple of artificial plants.

What is the meeting pod used for?

The client has used the Magna Meeting Pod mostly for meetings so far, but also for one-to-ones, Skype meetings, solo working on mobile devices away from the office and informal get-togethers over a coffee. That’s the main benefit of the meeting pod; they’re a multi-use, versatile workspace.

Feedback

Feedback to date has all been positive with the meeting pod in regular use when meeting rooms are unavailable. I have been back on site since the installation date and it was great to see four people using it to hold a meeting.

Within one hour of the completion of installation, my contact on site had received requests for pricing and for the meeting pod to be moved to several different departments so other people could try it.

Compared to the cost of building a permanent meeting room to seat four to six people, adding power, heating, air conditioning and sprinklers, the Magna Meeting Pod is far more cost effective. Plus it can be easily taken apart and moved elsewhere in your organisation.
